Welcome, I'm Haily and this is my first blog post! Over the past two years of owning a home, I have come to fall in love with gardening. I wanted to create a blog where I can share my experiences and what I've learned and continue to learn on this wonderful journey. A few things I really care about while working on our garden is making things as simple for me to do as possible, while yielding the best results. I also want everything to be as beautiful as it can be. My dream is having our entire half acre covered in perennial cottage flowers with our raised vegetable garden hidden in the back. Finally, and most importantly, is to keep it as under budget as I can! Being surrounded by beauty shouldn't cost the world to do. I'm here to find the best way to create your fantasy garden as simply, cheaply, and beautifully as possible!
Here is a list of some of my top tips to begin your garden journey.
1. Choosing the right plants: When starting a garden, it's important to pick plants that are suitable for your climate. Consider factors like the zone your in, sunlight, water requirements, and the space available in your garden. In terms of ease and cost, I am a huuuge advocate of perennials! I also live in an extremely deer populated area, so deer resistant is a must outside the fence.
2. Start with easy-to-grow plants: If you're new to gardening, it's best to start with plants that are known for their resilience and adaptability. Some popular choices for beginners include tomatoes, herbs like basil and mint, and flowers like yarrow or zinnias.
4. Water wisely: Proper watering is crucial for the health of your plants. It's important to water them deeply and infrequently rather than shallowly and frequently. This encourages the plants to develop deep root systems, making them more resilient to drought.
5. Mulch your garden: Applying a layer of mulch around your plants helps to conserve moisture, suppress weeds, and regulate soil temperature. Organic mulches like straw or wood chips also break down over time, enriching the soil with nutrients.
6. Regularly monitor and care for your plants: Keep an eye on your plants for any signs of pests, diseases, or nutrient deficiencies. Regularly remove weeds, deadhead flowers, and prune any overgrown branches to promote healthy growth.
7. Learn from your mistakes: Gardening is a continuous learning process, and it's normal to make mistakes along the way. Don't be discouraged if something doesn't go as planned. Take note of what worked and what didn't, and use that knowledge to improve your gardening skills.
Remember, gardening is a journey, and it's important to enjoy the process. With these easy gardening tips, you'll be well on your way to creating a beautiful and thriving garden. Happy gardening!
